Heath Hands volunteers have been monitoring mammals on the Heath since 2016, by setting camera traps across the green space to monitor population and breeding patterns. In 2017, we formed a partnership with ecologists from the City of London Corporation and ZSL to expand the area that we could monitor, setting up more cameras across the Heath, and into Highgate Wood.
We now have over 60 cameras, spanning across Hampstead Heath and Golders Hill Park. Along with historical records from our ongoing reptile monitoring project, we have been able to form an increasingly comprehensive record of mammals on the Heath, with a particular focus on Hedgehogs.
