Wildlife monitoring

< Back to Volunteering Home

Whether you're a budding ecologist or just really enthusiastic about nature, our ecology and monitoring programmes give you the opportunity to get up close to Hampstead Heath’s special species. We support the City of London Corporation and English Heritage by delivering a variety of projects in collaboration with other conservation groups,

As a volunteer Wildlife Monitor you will:

  • take part in important long term projects that survey rare and threatened species

  • work in small groups recording data that helps inform the conservation management plans of our green spaces

  • receive training in ecological monitoring techniques

  • become a member the wider Heath Hands volunteer

We are looking for people who:

  • have a keen interest in ecology or the natural world

  • have good communication skills, and are able to work in small team

  • are organised and can be flexible when they volunteer

  • can commit for a season of monitoring and attend weekly surveys on average

Monitoring is seasonal due to the natural cycles of wildlife - the programme typically runs from March until October, with volunteers recruited throughout the summer.
